Schuck hurls shutout to propel New Ulm by Fairmont

NEW ULM – New Ulm ace right-hander Sydney Schuck fired a six-hit shutout to engineer the Eagles’ 6-0 triumph over the Fairmont Cardinals during South Central Conference softball action on Thursday in New Ulm.

Schuck displayed stellar control at Harman Park, issuing only one base-on-balls while recording five strikeouts in seven innings to earn the complete-game victory.

Brittany Hoffmann and Katie Forst each produced a pair of hits and one RBI to fuel New Ulm’s eight-hit attack, while teammates Sarah Nelsen and Ellie Schneider chipped in one hit and an RBI each.

Courtney Whitmore, Kristen Campe, Allison Moeller, Mariah Thate, Tieryn Arens and Mikayla Krzywicki each collected singles for Fairmont.

Sophomore right-hander Aly Eversman allowed six runs on eight hits, struck out two and issued five walks in going the six-inning distance for the Cardinals.

Fairmont (0-6, 0-4 SCC) faces Waterville-Elysian-Morristown at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in The Windom Area Invitational.

New Ulm (9-1, 5-0 SCC) plays host to Jackson County Central in a nonconference game at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Harman Park in New Ulm.

New Ulm coasted to a 13-3, five-inning victory over Fairmont during junior varsity action Thursday in New Ulm.

Taylor Nuss and Payton Walser each produced two hits to top the Cardinals, while Abby Fitzgerald had a double. Sara Tschumperlin and Jess Koskovich chipped in singles.

Nuss worked three innings for Fairmont, while teammate Alison Johnston pitched the final two frames.

The Fairmont junior varsity travels to St. James on Tuesday for a doubleheader.
