Skrien homers Nicollet to opening win over M/T

MADELIA – Katelyn Skrien produced a game-high six RBIs behind a 3-for-3 hitting performance, including a pair of home runs, to power the Nicollet Raiders to a 17-0, five-inning nonconference softball victory over the Madelia/Truman Jayhawks on Thursday in Madelia.

Carissa Woller contributed a 4-for-5 effort, including a triple and a home run, and drove in two runs to add offensive punch to Nicollet’s 18-hit attack.

Sara Meurer fired a three-hit shutout, striking out three and issuing no walks in five innings of work to earn the complete-game victory for the Raiders.

Katie Osborne, Beth Kotewa and Taylor Thomas collected the Jayhawks’ hits on the game.

Thomas gave up six runs on seven hits and issued three walks in two innings of work to absorb the loss for Madelia/Truman.

Kotewa allowed 11 runs on 11 hits, struck out seven and walked two in three innings of relief for the Jayhawks.

Madelia/Truman (0-1) travels to Mountain Lake Area on Monday for a 4:30 p.m. non-league game.

Nicollet (1-0) plays host to Martin County West at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
