Doretta Ann Johnson was born July 9, 1926, in Ledyard, Iowa, to Ralph and Ethel Johnson. On Dec. 27, 1946, she was united in marriage to Art Wirtjes in Ledyard, Iowa. They lived and farmed on the same farm in Lakota, Iowa, until their retirement in 1985, when they moved to Buffalo Center. Art passed away in 2002. Doretta was a true helpmate to Art being involved in every aspect of farming. She enjoyed gardening, cross-stitching and was a great cook and baker. She was a voracious reader of her Bible and Christian books. Her Bible was always open on her table. She was an active member of Ramsey Reformed Church and treasured her church family. Doretta really enjoyed living in town and the time spent with neighbors and friends. Doretta moved to Keystone Apartments in Prior Lake in 2006 to be near her family. She especially loved all the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was present at the hospital for the births of three of her four great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life.
Doretta is survived by daughters, Linda (Vaun) Olhausen and Arlys (William) Meeker; grandchildren, Sheila (Matt) Christianson, Heidi (Trevor) Winter, and Matt (Tiffany) Meeker; great-grandchildren Macy and Nolan Winter and Tyler and Rayna Christianson; one sister Carolyn (Roger) Goetz; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sister, Marvella Beenken.
God bless the memory of Doretta Wirtjes.
