Duane K. Walser
FAIRMONT – Funeral services for Duane K. Walser, 76, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 21, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fairmont. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont.
Duane passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013, at his home in Fairmont after a two and a half year battle with cancer. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Lakeview Funeral Home, Fairmont and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
Duane Kenneth Walser was born Sept. 18, 1936, in Dunnell, Minn., the son of Ross and Erma (Baker) Walser. He grew up and attended school in Ceylon. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Huffman on June 22, 1956, in Salisbury, Mo. They lived in Fairmont for a short time before moving to California, where Duane managed a grocery store from 1962-1970. In 1970, they moved back to Fairmont and Duane started working at the Coast to Coast Store. Duane and Bonnie eventually became owners of the Fairmont Coast to Coast Store and managed the store for over 30 years before retiring in May of 2004. After retirement, they enjoyed winters in Arizona. Duane loved woodworking, reading, hunting and fishing.
Those who will cherish his memory include his wife, Bonnie Walser of Fairmont; son, Kevin Walser and special friend Kate of Fairmont; daughter, Kimberly Bolden and her husband, Greg, of Tallahassee, Fla.; six grandchildren, Melissa Klein of Fairmont, Payton Walser of Fairmont, Rory Walser of Ishpeming, Mich., Erik Oelke and fiance Rachel of St. Paul, Minn., Nick Oelke of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Mike Oelke (Julia) of Ann Arbor, Mich.; brother, Ross Walser Jr. of Ceylon, Minn.; sister, Jean Billingsley and her husband, Dean, of Pahrump, Nev.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Richard Lobb of Winnebago, Minn., Peggy and Jack Silker of Nisswa, Minn., Wendy and Dallas Becker of Truman, Minn., Bryan Huffman of Fairmont; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Ross and Erma Walser, and parents-in-law, Lloyd and Esther Huffman, Duane was preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Kotewa; three brothers, Donny, Earl and Vergil Walser; and three brothers-in-law, Bernard Kotewa, Perry Huffman and Larry Huffman.
Memorials are preferred to the United Hands Hospice Program or the donor’s choice.
