Harold H. Detert

CEYLON – Celebration of Life services for Harold H. Detert, 89, of Ceylon, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon, Minn., with Pastor Gerald Giese officiating. Burial will be in Welcome City Cemetery in Welcome, Minn.

Harold was called to his eternal rest on Saturday morning, March 9, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Lutz Wing in Fairmont, Minn. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today, March 14, 2013, at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Welcome, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.

Harold Herman Detert was born June 16, 1923, to Alfred and Mary (Stelter) Detert on the family farm in Tenhassen Township, Martin County, rural Ceylon, Minn. Harold was received into the kingdom of God through Holy Baptism on July 22, 1923, and later affirmed his faith at his confirmation on April 2, 1939, both at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon. He attended country school in Tenhassen Township. Harold then farmed with his family on the family farm in Tenhassen Township. On June 12, 1946, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Kramer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome, Minn. After their marriage, they farmed the Detert homestead in Tenhassen Township until 1978, when they retired and moved into Ceylon. They spent many hours helping to build their retirement home in Ceylon. Upon retirement from the farm, he worked for the Ceylon Co-op, Armour Foods in Fairmont and Petschke Excavating of Ceylon, retiring in 2000. On July 23, 2012, due to his health, Harold moved to the Lutz Wing in Fairmont. Harold was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ceylon, served as a trustee, served on the parsonage committee, was president of Brotherhood, played on the church dart ball team and, at one time, served on the church council. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching WWF on Monday nights.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Detert of Ceylon, Minn.; three daughters, Suzanne Bauer of Austin, Texas, Arrlette Krog of Melrude, Minn., Marilyn (Neil) Cheever of Armstrong, Iowa; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Richard Kramer of Sherburn, Minn.; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George and Dick Detert; son-in-law, Jon Krog; sisters-in-law, Zelda and Evelyn Detert, Betty Kramer and other relatives.
