Nursing home gets top rating

ARMSTRONG – Valley Vue Care Center in Armstrong has received recognition as one of the top nursing homes in Iowa, according to a recent study by U.S. News.

Owned and operated by ABCM Corp. of Hampton, Iowa, Valley Vue is one of 13 ABCM properties receiving the five-star listing in the study.

Westview Care Center in Britt and Emmetsburg Care Center in Emmetsburg also received the five-star listing.

Of 443 licensed nursing homes in Iowa, only 103 received the five-star rating.

“There are four different areas that are taken into consideration,” said Mary Tirevold, administrator at Valley Vue Care Center. “There are the quality measures, health inspections, nursing staffing and fire safety. This study puts all those things together and gives us a rating.”

The rating system was created to help consumers, families and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily and help identify areas about which they may want to ask questions.

Rankings are built on data from Nursing Home Compare, a part of the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

This isn’t the first time Valley Vue has received honors. The facility was awarded the Iowa Governor’s Award in 2007, and also was recognized as a high-ranking facility by CMS in 2009.

In addition to providing long-term care services, Valley Vue provides short-term rehab services through which people can rehabilitate and return to their homes after an illness or injury.

ABCM also operates Spring Creek Independent and Assisted Living facility in Armstrong. It was added to Valley Vue Care Center and has been operating since 2009.
