LAKOTA, Iowa – Funeral services for Irene Peterson, 93, of Lakota will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota, with Pastor Elaine Siemsen officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Lakota.
Irene passed away Friday, March 1, 2013, at Heritage Nursing Home in Bancroft. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Angeline Irene Peterson was born Aug. 1, 1919, in Lakota, Iowa, the daughter of Barbara and Albert Weringa. She was united in marriage to Jacob Peterson May 5, 1938, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lakota, Iowa.
She was known throughout the community as “Irene” and worked as a cook for the Lakota School from the early 1950s until 1996. For the past three years, she was living at the Heritage Home in Bancroft and greatly appreciated the visits from friends, relatives and former students of the Lakota School.
She is survived by four sons, Jacob Jr. “Bud” of Swea City, Iowa, Duane of Apache Junction, Ariz., Robert of Lancaster, Calif., and Paul of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two daughters, Barbara Ranney of Huxley, Iowa, and Kathy Abbas of Florence Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one grandson; three brothers and one sister.
