Duane Eldon “Ole” Vigdal was born on Jan. 28, 1929, in Armstrong, Iowa, the son of John and Anna (Helmers) Vigdal. He attended school in Dolliver, Iowa, and was a graduate of Dolliver High School.

In September of 1950, Ole enlisted with the Air Force and was stationed in California and Greenland. In October 1954, Ole received his honorable discharge.

On February 25, 1952, Duane was united in marriage to Wilma Lubenow in Fairmont. Together the couple made their home in California, Estherville, Iowa; Ceylon, and later Fairmont. To this union five daughters were born, Amber, Cindy, Paula, Nikki, and Penny.

While in the Air Force, Ole received his training in radios and was a radio technician. He used that knowledge when he returned home from the Air Force going into the appliance business. Ole worked at G.E. Appliance and later opened Fair Deal Appliance with Stan Nelson. He would later open Ole’s Appliance and owned and operated the store until his retirement in 1995. In his spare time, Ole enjoyed fishing, traveling, playing cards, and being around his children and grandchildren. He treasured the memories made during camping trips and loved horses and dogs. Ole was a member of the Martin County VFW Post 1222.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Wilma Vigdal of Fairmont; five daughters, Amber Tucker, Cindy Mulligan, Paula Gellert, Nikki Lamack, and Penny Abel; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Vigdal and Nancy Steele and her husband, Bill; numerous nieces and nephews; an “adopted” daughter, Mary Aga; as well as many other family and friends.
