Gertrude E. Mau
FAIRMONT – Funeral services for Gertrude E. Mau, 94, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fairmont, Minn. Pastor Richard Abel will be officiating.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery following the service.
Gertrude passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minn. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Gertrude “Gertie” Edna (Schwanz) Mau was born Nov. 2, 1918, in Alma City, Waseca County, in Minn., the daughter of Herman and Anna (Klinger) Schwanz. Later, she moved with her family to a farm north of Truman in Watonwan County Minn. She received her education at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parochial School in South Branch, Minn. As a young girl, Gertrude enjoyed singing with her siblings and going to dances and chivalries. On Feb. 20, 1938, Gertrude was united in marriage to Henry August Mau at St. John’s Lutheran Church in South Branch, Minn. Together, they made their home on a farm in Waverly Township, Martin County, Minn., where they were blessed with five children:?Richard, Roger, Joanne, Kenneth and David. In 1973, Henry and Gertrude retired and moved to Fairmont where Henry passed away on Aug. 31, 1993. Later, Gertrude moved to an apartment on Pheasant Ave. and, in 2006, she entered Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center, where she lived among friends until she passed away peacefully.
Gertrude worked for many years at Fairmont Methodist Health Care Center in Housekeeping and Laundry, where she made many friends. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fairmont, where she belonged to Naomi Circle. She was also a member of the Fairmont Community Hospital Auxiliary.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Richard Mau and special friend, Jan Boe, of Owatonna, Minn., Roger Mau and wife, Maggie, of Truman, Minn., Joanne Boelter of Trimont, Minn., and David Mau and wife, Gayle, of Coon Rapids, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great great grandson; brothers, Gilbert Schwanz and wife Lucille, Herman Jr. and wife, Carol, all of Truman Minn., and George Schwanz and wife, Mary Jo, of Brooklyn Center; sister Ruth Wentzel and husband, Herman, of Defiance, Ohio; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Anna Schwanz; husband, Henry Mau; son, Kenneth Mau; granddaughter, Lisa Mau; great-grandson, Kyle Nelson; brother, Martin Schwanz; six sisters, Esther Vogt, Evelyn Bonkoski, Loretta Anderson, Dorothy Kettner, Marlene Schwanz and Veda Schwanz; four brothers-in-law, Emil Vogt, Robert Bonkoski, Donald Anderson and Floris Kettner; and sister-in-law, Doris Schwanz.
