MCW routs Windom; Falcons oust Bluejays
WINDOM?- Martin County West junior sharpshooter Cordell Weber delivered a game-leading 29 points to engineer the Mavericks’ 82-50 rout over the Windom Eagles during nonconference basketball action on Thursday night in Windom.
Senior guard Mitchell Sitzmann produced 18 points, pocketed five steals and distributed three assists for the Mavericks, while senior forward Austin Krumwiede contributed 15 points to the winning performance.
Senior center Kyle Brolsma pulled down nine rebounds for Martin County West, which connected on 20 of 33 shots from 2-point distance for a stellar 61 percent.
The Mavericks also made 8 of 13 shots from behind the 3-point arc for 62 percent to go with an 18-for-23 performance from the free throw line for 78 percent.
Collin Lovell scored 12 points to top the Eagles’ balanced offensive effort, while teammates Nathan Remmers and Andy Pfeffer supplied 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Windom connected on 9 of 14 free throws on the contest.
No. 2-seeded Martin County West (19-5) tips off the Section 3AA, South Sub-Section quarterfinals by playing host to No. 7-seeded Pipestone Area at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 2, in Sherburn.
Red Rock Central 66, Truman 31 – Brooke Rasmussen produced a game-best 19 points to guide the No. 8-seeded Falcons to a 35-point triumph over the No. 9-seeded Bluejays during opening-round playoff action on Thursday night in Jeffers.
Red Rock Central (4-18) advances to face No. 1-seeded Mankato Loyola in the Section 2A, South Sub-Section quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in Mankato.
Truman ended its season with a 4-21 overall record.
Emily Zaharia generated nine points, pocketed three steals and recorded a game-leading four blocked shots to pace the Bluejays’ effort.
Beth Kotewa contributed seven points to Truman’s performance, Savannah Hodge garnered four rebounds, while Briannia Pearson chipped in three steals.
