Isabel I. Shell

WELCOME – Celebration of life services for Isabel I. Shell, 90, of Welcome, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Welcome with the Rev. Susan Lester officiating. Burial will be in Welcome City Cemetery in Welcome.

Isabel was called to her eternal rest on Saturday morning, Feb. 16, 2013, at Truman Senior Living, in Truman.

Isabel Irene Pattee was born July 15, 1922, in Sioux City, Iowa, daughter of Walter and Ennis (Michell) Pattee. She received her education and later graduated from Sioux City High School. Isabel was employed as a waitress at a local cafe in Sioux City, Iowa. On June 9, 1940, she was united in marriage to Lawrence H. Shell in Le Mars, Iowa. After their marriage, Isabel lived in the state of Washington while Lawrence served in the U.S. Army. After Lawrence’s discharge, they lived in South Sioux City, Iowa, while Lawrence was employed at Northern Natural Gas Company until moving to Paullena, Iowa, and moved to Welcome, Minn., in 1948. Isabel was employed at 3M in Fairmont for many years until her retirement in 1973. They greatly enjoyed spending their winters in Mission, Texas. Lawrence died on Aug. 29, 2001. She continued living in Welcome until becoming a resident of Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont and later a resident of Truman Senior Living. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Welcome, and was involved with the Eastern Star in Sherburn where she held various offices. Isabel greatly enjoyed doing crafts, making pine cone wreaths, crocheting and making afghans and riding motorcycles.

She is survived by her sons, John Shell of Welcome, Minn., and his special friend, Tracy Buchmeier and James Shell and his wife, Delight, of Welcome, Minn.; five grandchildren, Tim Shaikoski and his wife, Deborah, of Rockford, Minn., Chad Shell and his wife, Lizelle, of Eden Prairie, Minn., Joel Shell and his wife, Marcella, of San Antonio, Texas, Ryan Shell and his wife, Nichole, of Truman, Minn., and Adam Shell of Fairmont, Minn.; four great-grandchildren, Braeden Shell, Alex, Josh and Claire Shaikoski; several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Isabel is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ennis; her husband, Lawrence Shell; brothers and sisters and other relatives.
