Mavericks defuse Chargers

SHERBURN – Cordell Weber netted a game-high 14 points, while teammate Austin Krumwiede neared double-double territory to help the Martin County West Mavericks defuse the Minnesota Valley Lutheran Chargers, 45-35, during non-league basketball action Tuesday night in Sherburn.

Krumwiede produced 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds, while teammate Jake Faber scored seven points and garnered eight boards.

Mitch Sitzmann collected eight points, three steals and three rebounds to round out MCW’s winning ways.

The Mavericks made 15 of 49 field goals and 11 of 15 free throws on the night.

Nick Dewanz scored 12 points to top MVL, which hit 7 of 10 free throws on the game.

Martin County West (14-3) plays host to Madelia on Friday night in Sherburn.

St. Clair 61, Granada-Huntley-East Chain 56 – The Cyclones erased an 11-point halftime deficit to edge the Mustangs, 61-56, during Valley Conference action Tuesday night in St. Clair.

Dylan Petrowiak generated 14 points and seven rebounds to top GHEC’s effort, while Josh Johanson contributed 13 points.

Logan Pytleski scored eight points, while teammate Konnor Kristenson pulled down eight rebounds for the Mustangs.

GHEC shot 50 percent from 2-point range (18 of 36), 3-point distance (4 of 8) and the free throw line (8 of 16).

Granada-Huntley-East Chain (4-12) travels to Okabena on Friday, Feb. 8, to face Southwest Star Concept.

North Union 55, Corwith-Wesley-Luverne 41 – Shane Mills produced a double-double performance of 14 points and 10 rebounds to power the Warriors to a 14-point Corn Belt Conference triumph over the Panthers on Tuesday night in Armstrong.

Mills also blocked three shots, Jacob Braddock scored 12 points, while Colin Runksmeier contributed eight points to North Union’s winning ways.

Aric Runge supplied six points, eight boards and six assists for the Warriors, while Colton McConnell added six points.

North Union made 16 of 31 shots from 2-point range, 6 of 17 behind the bonus arc and 5 of 9 at the free throw line.

Josh Hilbert scored 13 points for CWL, while teammate Esden Carroll chipped in 11 points.

North Union (4-15) travels to West Bend-Mallard on Friday night.

Girls Basketball

Blue Earth Area 51, Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial 32 – Krista Hassing delivered another double-double effort to propel the Bucs to a 19-point non-league victory over the Knights on Tuesday night in Blue Earth.

Hassing produced game-leading totals of 17 points and 10 rebounds to complement four steals.

Janessa Jahnke scored nine points for Blue Earth Area, Taylor Grandgenett netted six points and pocketed a game-best seven steals, while Jenna Stevermer supplied six points and four steals.

The Bucs connected on 21 of 66 field goals and 9 of 17 free throws on the game.

Blue Earth Area (11-5, 4-3 South Central) travels to St. Peter on Thursday night.

North Union 63, Corwith-Wesley-Luverne 42 – Cheyanne Boland scored a game-best 16 points to guide the Warriors to a 21-point Corn Belt Conference triumph over the Panthers on Tuesday night in Armstrong.

Aurora Oliver collected 12 points and three assists for North Union, while teammate Jasmine Clausen generated 10 points, six assists and four steals.

Madison Bollig contributed seven rebounds and three assists to the Warriors’ winning ways, Dena Looft pocketed six rebounds and three steals, while Sarah Rolling added six boards and three assists.

North Union made 17 of 54 shots from 2-point distance, 7 of 24 from 3-point territory and 8 of 17 at the charity stripe.

Amber Schulz netted 16 points and five rebounds to help pace Martin Luther, while Effie Bentz scored 12 points and distributed seven assists.

Kayley Shoen netted 11 points for the Knights, who hit 19 of 46 shots from 2-point range, 2 of 7 from behind the arc and 10 of 15 at the line.
