Use common sense

To the Editor:

When our elected officials need to spend our money, they award a bid to the low (price) provider. These low bids (low price) represent the price of a project or item.

Low cost, on the other hand, represents the price plus the effect of added value. Value is added when profit is increased to local businesses and employees are added to these businesses. This potential added value is lost when bids are awarded to non-local businesses.

Common sense says we should let bids for low cost, not low price. Call your elected officials and tell them to use common sense when they spend our money.
