Mark A. Madsen

FAIRMONT – A Mass of Christian Burial for Mark A. Madsen, 62, of Fairmont, Minn. will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery in Fairmont.

Mark passed away Wednesday evening, Jan. 16, 2013, at Truman Senior Living Center. Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont is in charge of the arrangements for the family.

Mark Arnold Madsen was born Oct. 21, 1950, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Richard and Geraldine (Larkin) Madsen. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Washburn High School in 1968 and then went on the University of Minnesota. Mark graduated from the U of Minnesota Law School in 1975. Also in 1975, he married Lynn Zimmerman. Mark and Lynn moved to Fairmont in 1976 and had three daughters, Maria, Taylor and Maggie. Mark worked at the Erickson, Zierke, Kuderer, Utermarck and McKenna, P.A. Law Firm where he became partner. He worked for the law firm for 36-plus years. On Jan. 1, 1994, Mark married Margot Albensoeder in Spring Green, Wis.

Mark was very dedicated to his work and held himself accountable to a very high ethical standard. He thought of his clients as his friends and the staff that he worked with as family. Mark had a love for the outdoors and nature and led an active lifestyle. He was a Minnesota sports enthusiast and faithful fan to his alma mater. He loved music, his family and traveled the world abroad.

Those who will cherish his memory include: wife, Margot Madsen of Fairmont, Minn.; three daughters, Maria Peterson and her husband, Jeff, of Poulsbo, Wash., Taylor Madsen of Kapolei, Hawaii, Maggie Vait and her husband, Billy, of Mapleton, Minn.; the girl’s mother, Lynn Madsen of Owatonna, Minn.; three grandchildren, Jackson and Nolan Vait, Ida Peterson; mother, Geraldine Madsen of Bloomington, Minn.; two sisters, Diane McMillan of Dunellen, N.J., Jane Madsen of St. Paul, Minn., and her two children, Chase and Paige; Margot’s children, Karl Albensoeder and his wife, Laura, of Chicago, Ill., Michael Albensoeder of Louisville, Ky., Suzy Eastman and her husband, Steve, of Wayzata, Minn., Jennifer Albensoeder of Chicago, Ill.; Margot’s grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Richard Madsen.
