MelRoy Melvin Cole

TRUMAN – Funeral services for MelRoy Melvin Cole, 74, of Truman will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman, Minn. Burial will be following the service in St. Paul’s cemetery, rural Truman.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Zaharia Family Funeral & Cremation Service of Truman, and will continue at the church one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. MelRoy passed away Jan. 3, 2013, at Good Samaritan Home in St. James, Minn.

MelRoy Melvin Cole was born June 13, 1938, to George and Amelia (Kruger) Cole in Estherville, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Truman, Minn., and graduated from Truman High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Amanda Gieseke on July 13, 1957. They had five children, and farmed outside of Truman. He was widowed in 1970, when Mandy was killed in an accident. Mel married Barb Kehr in 1972 and had a son. They later divorced. MelRoy loved hunting and fishing with family and friends, as well as following local sports.

MelRoy is survived by his children: Kenneth (Diane) Cole of Bailey, Colo., Karen (Jon) Helvig of Truman, Minn., Lanee (Joe) VanSant of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kurt (Elene) Cole of RAF Lakenheath, England, Kerry (Sarah) Cole of Yelm, Wash., Kyle Cole of Mankato, Minn., Kelly Cole of St. James, Minn.; son-in-law Ralph Stangler of Watertown, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Norma) Cole of Brownton, Minn.; sister, Carol Green (Mert) of Courtland, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Amanda; twin brother, LeeRoy; and daughter, Lynn Stangler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Good Samaritan Society, St. James, or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Truman.
