Larry F. Wolter
GRANADA?-?Mass of Christian Burial for Larry F. Wolter, 73, of Granada, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Burial will be following the service in the Calvary Cemetery in Fairmont with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post #36 and the Martin County VFW Post#1222 of Fairmont.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., with a prayer service held at 7 p.m., on Sunday, Jan. , 2013, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Larry passed away Wednesday evening, Jan. 2, 2013, at Truman Senior Living Center in Truman, Minn.. Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Larry Francis Wolter was born July 2, 1939, in Rutland Township, Martin County, Minn., the son of Lawrence and Lillian (Thate) Wolter. Larry attended school in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School.
On Nov. 18, 1961, Larry was united in marriage to Alyce Faye Hughes at the St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Following their marriage, Larry and Alyce lived in Northrop for a short time prior to moving to the family farm near Granada. Larry and Alyce were blessed with six children, Michele, Paula, Lisa, Paul, Matt, and Ben.
Larry was active and served his country as a member of the Minnesota National Guard entering the service in 1961 and earning his honorable discharge in 1963. Larry was a hard-working dairy farmer and, in recent years, worked for FAB. He loved farming and was a proud member of the Martin County Dairy Association and the Martin County Fair Board. Larry was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins, rarely missing a game. He treasured being able to spend time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren grow up.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Michele (Craig) West, Eagan; Paula (Brad) Coulter, Prior Lake; Lisa (Scott) Bovy, Ramsey; Paul (Cindy) Wolter, Granada; Matt (Deb) Wolter, Granada; and Ben Wolter, Welcome; 16 grandchildren, Brianna, Brandi, Tyler, Alyssa, Emily, Luke, Carter, Jacob, Joshua, Jameson, Abby, Zach, Owen, Cody, Morgan, and Jordon; sisters, Gen (Bob) Manzke, Dawn (Norm) McCarthy, and Elaine (Beryl) Buchan; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hughes and Marilyn Hillmer; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Alyce Wolter; parents, Lawrence and Lillian Wolter; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gerald and Dorothy Hughes; brothers-in-law, Jerry Hughes, Jack Iliff, and Walt Hillmer; sister-in-law, Barbara Iliff; and other family.
